Next, you have to change Layer’s Mode to from Normal to Color Dodge. You should normally find the mode on the right of the screen.
This is how it should look:

The image might go white, but don’t worry, you didn’t ruin everything. Now, go to menu, Filter/Blur/Gaussian Blur.

There you should change the radius until the image looks the way you want it to.

Yeah, I can sure for you they really enjoying themselves, even because I’m the boy in the photo (lol).
This picture was taken in a place called Monte Verde, here in Brazil. It’s a city in the montains (very cold for brazilian’s standard, with temperatures of -5º in the winter). Curiously, it was taken in brazilian Valentine’s Day.
There are more pictures from us in the address that I left here, of course, if it interest for you.
I’m glad you enjoyed it and that was useful for you.
See ya!

open document (layer 1)
copy layer -> layer 2
grayscale layer 2
copy layer 2 -> layer 3
invert layer 3
layer 3 color dodge
blur layer 3
try it, lines work out better.
if you want to add color to the sketch,
bring layer 1 on top and set to color mode
=)

Hi,
Nice Tutorial. Here is my two cents on how we can get the same or similar effect with lesser steps, using Graphic Pen or Charcoal filter (White and Black as FG and BG colors). Also I think you can do a Find Edges followed by a Desaturate.
Bye and happy photoshoping
